Welcome!

We are Impact of Omission, an organisation run by two uni students that aims to make education on Britain’s imperial past part of the compulsory national curriculum. For too long the U.K. has gone uneducated on its history as an empire, and this ignorance has allowed racist structures of power to not only endure, but flourish. With your help, we aim to change this through collective action such as petitions, providing letter scripts, and the original survey that clearly proved to us the discrepancies in teaching, as it saw 86.2% of our 56,000+ respondents educated in-depth on Henry VIII but only 9.3% educated on the role of slavery in British Industrialisation.

We are by no means the first people to campaign for a more accurate and truthful curriculum that celebrates the contribution of Black Brits, whilst exploring the country’s violent, racist past, and so would like to take this space to feature other, similar organisations such as:

On this site you will find:

  • Letter templates that you can send to your MP, and school(s) calling for change, using our survey data to prove the point that while it is an option for schools to teach these subjects, it is not being done. —>

  • a link to the original survey, and frequently updated results page, pie-charts, and links to the raw data —>

  • a gallery of responses from people who filled out the survey and generously shared their stories of time spent in education —>

We would like to make it clear that we are not the only ones to have highlighted this issue, and we are far from the first. Please see the resources page for links to some of these organisations/petitions. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE ADDED TO OUR RESOURCES PAGE, DM US ON TWITTER @impactomission
